This is what white-water rafting on the Vindel River is like
Would you like to do something active during your stay? At Forsknäckarna, you can try white-water rafting in the Vindelälven river, just about 30–40 minutes from Wallhalla. They offer trips at various levels, from calmer family trips to more action-packed stretches in Ekorrsele. Out on the water, it alternates between calm sections and rapids. On certain trips, such as the family trip, the guide may stop and let anyone who wants to jump into the water, and suddenly someone just throws themselves into the cold water. These are the moments you remember. Count on about 3 hours in total. The Trollforsen trip is suitable from the age of 12 in the company of an adult, and the Ice Cream trip is a family trip from the age of 9.

Our tips
Start with a gentler ride if it is your first time
If you have not tried whitewater rafting before, the family tour is a great way to get started. You get to experience the rapids at a calmer pace and have time to understand how everything works out on the water.
Bring dry clothes for afterwards
You are going to get wet, regardless of luck. Have a dry change of clothes and a towel in the car and it will be much nicer afterwards.
Take in more than just the rapids
It is easy just to focus on paddling through the waves, but look up sometimes. You are moving through forest, along uninhabited shores and with long stretches where the river flows freely. That is precisely what makes the Vindelälven river different.
Choose a tour based on what you want to get out of it
If you want more speed, there are trips with bigger rapids. If you want to try it for the first time or go with children, the family trip is a good choice.

FAQ
Do I need to be able to swim?
Yes, you need to be able to swim. You have a life jacket, but if you end up in the water you must be able to get into the correct position. The guide will go through everything before you start.
What does it feel like to go white-water rafting?
You are sitting in the boat with the group, paddling through the current as the river moves beneath you. Sometimes it is calm, sometimes there is more speed through the rapids. The water splashes up in your face and you immediately feel how cold it is. It is precisely this variation that makes the experience so much fun.
What happens if I fall in the water?
It sometimes happens. You have a life jacket and float straight away and the guide quickly helps you back into the boat. The water is cold, even in the summer, but you have equipment that protects you. Most people who fall in find it exciting and fun.
Which tour should I choose?
The glass tour is ideal if it is your first time or if you are travelling with children. If you want more speed and bigger rapids, you can choose the Trollfors tour. If you are unsure, we are happy to help you find a tour that suits you.
When is the best time of the season?
Early summer, May to July, provides the most water and more distinct rapids. Later in the summer it becomes calmer, but still works well if you want a gentler trip.
Book well in advance, especially at weekends and in July.
